Hospital Director – Mental Health

Location: South Wales – Easily commutable from Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend, Swansea, and surrounding areas.

Working Arrangements: 37.5 hours per week (flexible to meet service needs), including on-call responsibilities.

Salary Package: £75,000 Per annum 

About the Role:

Appoint Healthcare is excited to partner with a leading healthcare provider to recruit a Hospital Director for a specialist Mental Health Service in South Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to manage and develop a high-quality, patient-focused service for adults with mental health needs, learning disabilities, and associated complex behaviors.
As a key leadership figure, you will oversee all aspects of hospital operations, including strategic planning, regulatory compliance, financial management, and staff development. The role demands a proactive, visionary leader who can drive innovation while ensuring the delivery of exceptional care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the operational and strategic management of the hospital, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., Mental Health Act 1983, CQC).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with commissioners, regulators, and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver high-quality care by supporting multidisciplinary teams to implement care plans, treatment plans, and risk assessments effectively.
  • Oversee the hospital’s budget, ensuring financial targets are met while optimizing resource use.
  • Provide strong leadership, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Promote the retention, development, and performance of staff, ensuring compliance with training requirements and professional standards.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organization, enhancing its reputation among key audiences.

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (RNMH, RNLD, or RGN) or equivalent qualification with a valid NMC registration.
  • Extensive leadership and management experience within mental health or learning disabilities services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory frameworks and healthcare legislation.
  • Proven experience in budgetary management, workforce planning, and driving service improvements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective partnerships.
  • Ability to lead through change, inspire teams, and achieve strategic objectives.
